Rules
Rank is the bid. Nothing else.
sourcebid is a public leaderboard of open source GitHub repositories. Position on the board is determined by the amount paid, and by nothing else. sourcebid sells board placement only and does not affect GitHub stars, downloads, search results or any other GitHub metric in any way.
Ranking
- The minimum for a new listing is $5. The maximum is $999,999. Bids are whole dollars.
- Taking #1 costs the current top bid plus $5. If the top bid is $1,000, claiming #1 costs $1,005. This step exists to stop $1 sniping wars at the top.
- Taking any other rank only needs to exceed the listing it displaces by $1.
- Equal bids hold their original order: the older bid ranks higher. A listing that has held $500 for a week outranks a fresh $500.
- Bidding below the board's top does not fail. You land wherever that amount reaches, which may be anywhere from #2 to last.
- Rank is never stored. It is computed from the live board every time the board is read.
Raising your own listing
Enter the same repository again. The new total must be at least $1 above your current amount, and you pay only the difference. A listing at $80 moving to $91 pays $11, and its stored amount becomes $91.
Nobody else can take that rank by paying $11. To displace a listing at $91 they would have to pay $92 outright. The difference rule applies only to the listing you already hold.
What can be listed
- Public GitHub repositories only.
- Listings are keyed by
owner/name, so tracking parameters, branch paths and.gitsuffixes are stripped. One repository is one listing. - Anyone may list any public repository. Ownership is deliberately not verified - listing a project you depend on is a normal use of the board.
- Not listable: private repositories, archived repositories, repositories with no commits, and forks under 100 stars.
Not allowed
Adult content, chat and invite links, affiliate or redirect URLs, link shorteners, malware, and archived repositories. Listings that break these rules are removed without refund.
Maintainer takedown
Maintainers may request removal of their repository at any time. Message @TarunShipIt on X from an account associated with the project. Removed listings are not refunded.
Refunds
All payments are final. Listings are non-refundable. Rank is not guaranteed for any period - anyone can outbid you at any time. Bid accordingly.
Every purchase is confirmed twice: you are returned to the board and shown the repository, the amount and the position you bought, and a receipt is emailed to the address you gave at checkout recording the same details and the time of purchase.
Moderation
Listings are reviewed before going live. A listing that violates these rules is removed without refund. Rank changes are recorded and shown on the board, so placement is visible and verifiable at all times.
Clicks
The number beside each listing is a count of raw outbound redirects from this board to that repository, filtered for bots and link previews. It is not a measure of visits, traffic value or conversions, and sourcebid makes no claim about what a listing will produce.
