About

A leaderboard where the rank is the price.

sourcebid is a public board of open source GitHub repositories, ordered by how much has been paid for each position. There is no algorithm, no quality score and no editorial judgement. The highest bid is #1. That is the entire mechanic, and it is the entire product.

Why it exists

Every list of “best” open source projects is bought in some way - by attention, by marketing budget, by whoever wrote the list. This one states the price out loud and shows the receipts. The revenue counter at the bottom of the board is the total taken since it opened, and it is not rounded, hidden or estimated.

Anyone can list any public repository, including one they did not write. Boosting a project you depend on is a normal and expected use of the board.

What the numbers mean

  • Amount - the total currently stored against that listing, in whole dollars.
  • Rank - derived at read time from amount, with ties broken by which listing bid first. Never stored.
  • Stars - read from the GitHub API and refreshed every six hours. sourcebid does not affect them in any way.
  • Clicks - raw outbound redirects from this board to that repository, filtered for bots and link previews. They are not visits, traffic value or conversions, and no claim is made about what a listing produces.

Who built it

One person, as a small public experiment in transparent pricing. Questions, takedown requests and complaints go to @TarunShipIt, and the rules are on /rules.
